Word Before World

I believe that the Bible’s best condition is one that is marked up, has tear stains, has nics and tears, and is a Bible that is given a lot of love. I never leave a Bible “like new,” for when I read the Bible, I unpack each verse, I write notes, and it goes through wear and tear, for I am so enthralled and in complete love with His Word, that I cannot help but uncover all that the Word has to offer.

There is a phrase that I am quite in love with, and it is “Word before World,” which I believe was created by the Well Water Women company. These phrase not speaks impeccable volumes, but it should be one of the life phrases of a Christian, for the Word another gift given to us by God so we may learn more of Him; however, as the world becomes more evil, the Bible has been placed on shelves and are now collecting dust, Bible are no longer being bought and can be found in masses at stores, and Bibles are being thrown and mocked due to society disagreeing with the message.

Sometimes, I feel as if some Christians can take the Word for granted when in some countries, the Word of God is banned. If you were to be seen with a Bible within these countries, you would be executed, beaten, and arrested, yet America brings such freedom to read the Bible whenever you want, wherever you want, but many places the Bible on a book stand and leave it to collect dust. There is no greater country than America, and regardless of what the many Liberals say, America brings the ultimate freedom to read the Bible, to praise God, and to mention the name of Jesus without being chastised and killed for doing such.

As a believer, the Word of God nourishes our walk with Christ, the Word of God is sweet like honey, and His grace is life to our bones, so to precariously place the Word on a table and forget about it will forever perplex me, for the Word is like God’s love letter to us, and I will never be able to get enough of the words written within the Bible, for they were breathed by the very God that I love and serve. The words written in the Bible from cover to cover were meticulously inspired by God Himself, and the very process of how the Word came to be will forever be an act of God, so I will never be able to place His Word down, for His Word is a love letter for us to read.

When we place the Word before the World, we put on the armor of God

 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:10-13

Within the Word, God tells us to place on our armor, for the world is out to devour whoever they can find. The enemy is out to steal, kill, and destroy; therefore, we must always be ready and alert within our faith due to the devil’s constant search for prey. The world is filled with temporary pleasures, sin, and destruction that “looks good,” but ends in our destruction. One of my life verses is Proverbs 14:12, which ultimately tells us that though a way may seem good to a man, in the eyes of God, it leads to our destruction, but if we place on our armor and divulge ourselves into the Word, we will be more cautious about which roads we take due to going into prayer first.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

The Bible is also sharper than a two-edged sword, and when we place His Word above this world, we are protecting ourselves from the chains that entreat those in darkness. The Word is not only God’s letter to us, but it is also there as a shield, for when we surround ourselves with God’s truth, nothing can tell us otherwise, for we will be so rooted in truth, that we will refuse to let any root of bitterness of the world form without our hearts.

Therefore, as believers, we should place His Word before this World due to this world leading us away from God. When we allow the world more time than the Bible, we are taking our armor off and leaving us susceptible to sin, destruction, and destinations that God never wanted us to go. If we are not growing in God, we can hinder our growth, we can be at a standstill, and the chaos that we allow into our lives can make it seem as if we cannot hear His voice, for His voice is a still voice, not a loud one; therefore, it takes a quite and still soul to hear His voice, which is why He tells us to “Be still.”

 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

When we place the Word of God as second, anything will have free reign within our hearts, for out of our hearts springs the issues of life. Many say “it’s just the Bible,” but the Bible is God, the Bible is Him in written form, and the Bible was breathed by Him. The Word became flesh, the Word became alive, and the Word is alive; therefore, the Word is not just a “book,” but it is a book that is living, it is a book that is powerful, and it is a book that is God.

When understanding the importance of the Word, who would ever place it down? When we realize that the very book we are holding became flesh so we could live, how could one take it for granted? With that being said, we must place the Word before the World, for we need to put on our armor, for the world is out to destroy anything that is good, for what God calls good, society calls “evil.”

When we place the Word before the World, we focus our minds on truth rather than idling our minds

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9

An idle mind is the devil’s playground, which is why Paul tells us to think of things that are noble, of good report, and are pure in the eyes of God. One way for us to remain thoughtful in these things are to constantly be in the Word, for when we consume ourselves with God’s Word, we continue and desire to grow in truth. When we decided to dig deep into His Word, we will find it impossible to put down, for His Word is what our souls hunger for, His Word is what our souls need, and His Word is packed with truth that is meant to set our soul free.

The one thing Satan wants is for a believer to be swayed within their walk with Christ, which is why Satan is known to tempt us with the things this world has to offer, but those very things, if not strong in Him and His Word, can cause chaos to enter our hearts, for if we open the door to sin by just an inch, Satan will barge in and try to take over.

The Word of God not only serves as our armor, but it serves to fully satisfy our hearts, for if we do not find full satisfaction in Christ, then we will become swayed by the false hopes the world offers. This world offers wealth, fame, and other “riches,” that are said to “give you all you can desire,” and if a person is not deeply rooted in truth, they will become entranced with the “shiny package” being offered by the world, and an idle mind will become consumed with that of false hope rather than the truth of God’s Word.

 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,  but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—” Ephesians 4:14-15

An idle mind is easily swayed, an idle mind is stagnant in their faith, and an idle mind is not alert, which is what God tells us not to be. As Christians, we must always be fully in love with Christ, for if any part of us is “not fully in,” then Satan will use that one prt that is half out, and cause is to spin out of chaos, for in order to be fully used by God, you must be fully love Him; therefore, fill your mind with His truth, and His truths alone, and Satan will have no room to wreak havoc upon your mind or life.

When we place the Word before the World, we will find ultimate joy in Him

“How sweet are Your words to my taste,

Sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:103

The Word of God speaks of such abundant truths of what is to come, that my heart leaps with joy. As of now, I have been spending a few months in Philippians, and I have just now finished unpacking such a truth filled book. Philippians has brought such joy and peace due to understanding that Christ will fight for us, for Christ is our strength, and He yearns for us to focus our hearts on Him, but if Christians do not see the importance of reading His Word daily, they will fail to see His love for us in the Word, which can cause a spirit of loneliness too occur due to allowing our minds to sit idle

“I will bless the Lord at all times;

His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;

The humble shall hear of it and be glad.

Oh, magnify the Lord with me,

And let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:1-3

When we read His Word, it not only strengths our walk with Him, but it changes our lookout on many things. We go from negative to positive, sad to happy, and we seek to share the truth of His Word to others so they may find the same joy that we have found. The Word of God is filled with God pouring out His heart to us, pouring out His grace to us, and pouring out His infinite wisdom to us, and when we bask in those things, we will be joyful, and our countenance will show a brightness due to the Word shining through us.

The Word of God brings radiance to our souls, for it is as if you are drinking a glass of fresh water, and it is as if you are able to breathe a breath of fresh air. The Word of God gives you the ability to escape the chaos of this world and to see the many wonders that God promises in His Word, for His Word gives hope to those who believe, for when Christ said “It is Finished,” the world lost, sin lost, and victory was declared. When we focus on the Word more than the world, we will not fear what is happening, for we know Jesus already defeated these things, so why be burdened when Jesus declared victory over our lives? Rejoice in the joy of His grace, for due to His grace, we have a reason to live, a reason to sing, and we are able to read His Word due to His unending mercy and love.

The Word of God is not only here to read, but it is here to instruct us, to guide us, and for us to read the very words that God breathed and inspired. The Word of God is like our lifeline to Him, and the Word of God is one of the ways, other than prayer, that we can communicate with Him, so the next time you place a Bible on that stand, give it a read, immerse your soul in His truth, and allow Him to mold you, shape you, and to convict of any wrongdoings that may reside in your heart, for we should place the Word before the World, for He is the only cup that will not run dry, He is the only cup that can fully satisfy, and His Word is like milk and honey, and I shall never get enough.

  1. 8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

    9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

    10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

    11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
    Revelation 10:8-11 (KJV)

  2. Thanks for sharing! I have put a Bible on our coffee table, on my bedside table, on my desk and have one on my phone so I’ve got no excuse not to dig in anytime. I remember giving my granddaughter a children’s Bible when she was old enough to read. I was showing her the things in it and her mom (who is antagonistic to anything Bible) told her she’s not allowed to ever write in the book. I know part of it was she didn’t want her daughter thinking she could write in other books, but she also doesn’t understand how the Spirit speaks to us while we read the Word and we need to write things down in it or hi-lite things or just put a date we read the passage. I’m praying the Lord will soon restore the years the worm has eaten and all my children & grandchildren as well as children-in-law develop a hunger for the Word and for the things of the Lord, including salvation.
