Your Eyes Are the Gateway to Your Heart

Have you ever heard the saying “Your eyes are the gateway to your heart?” Well, that might not be false or a lie. When I was growing up, my mother always told me “Christina, the radiance from your eyes will come from what you hold dear in your heart and what you believe in,” and as I’ve been reading through the Scriptures, that isn’t wrong.

Throughout the Scriptures, the eyes are symbolized as either blind or enlightened by the truth. When the truth has been revealed to you, you have the choice to accept Christ or to walk away, and that choice will impact whether Christ is shining through you or not.

When we set our hearts on being Christlike, on following Him, and by writing the Scriptures on our hearts, that will shine through our eyes and our countenance and give us radiance.

Have you ever passed someone with such glowing and bright eyes and wonder “How can their eyes be so glowing, so bright, and so crystal clear?” The reason you are so captivated by the radiance in their eyes is due to it reflecting their hearts. Their hearts are set on Jesus, they strive to be like Him, and they keep their focus on the Scriptures.

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” Matthew 6:22

The eyes radiate what is in your heart and your eyes show us what you are producing. When your eyes are radiating with light, then your entire body will be full of light, and the love you have for Jesus Christ will not only be in your eyes, but in your entire body!

Our society gets it wrong; like usual. Society is focused on radiating from the stage, in magazines, with tons of makeup on our faces so we can “glow,” or through other things that are artificial and not real.

“But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

Again, Samuel tells us that the heart is more important than the outer appearance, and there are several reason for this. The appearance can be deceiving for you have plastic surgeries, the unrealistic expectations in magazines, and all of these other things that are not real, so this is why you look at the heart, for your true radiance comes from your heart, which will reflect throughout your eyes!

This is why it is important to look at the heart, for when you truly know what is in one’s heart, you cannot be deceived for that person cannot put makeup on it and they cannot hide it from others, so your eyes will show a person whether the light of Christ is shining within you or not.

We aren’t perfect, and we will stumble and fall, but we must make it our desire to be more like Him and to have our hearts set on Him, for that will radiate on the outside.

Personally, I want Christ to radiate from my eyes and I want others to look into my eyes and see Him. I want others to know without a doubt that my passion for Him runs deep within my heart, so to do that, I strive to be like Him each and every second.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Do I fail at times when striving to be like Him? Most definitely, but that’s the good thing about repentance!” We can repent and we can have peace in knowing that we have a Heavenly Father who is willing and just to forgive us due to His Son’s sacrifice!

So don’t worry about the societal views of radiance, for your very eyes are what truly show the beauty of your heart. Work on how you can strengthen your relationship with Christ, for you cannot expect your walk to be strengthened if you aren’t willing to grow in Christ.

So focus on your heart more, on your faith more, and on your relationship with Christ more. When you read the Scriptures, read them to gain something from them besides seeing how much you can read. When you write the gospel on your heart, it will then shine through your eyes and then light up your entire countenance with light, so instead of focusing on cosmetics trends of the world, focus on what truly gives you radiance; the gospel of Jesus Christ.
